Mets fans, been a fan since ‘69. Seen lots of ⚾️. Here’s the truth: even great franchises only win the WS now & again. It’s hard to do & you need luck too. What I’ve learned is to enjoy the ride each season. ⚾️ is great. And when you win, soak in every drop.
@chelsea_janes Chelsea, it’s darned impressive how fast & how well you’ve learned the characteristics of our bizzaro-world Mets universe.
Thanks for the insightful, straight-ahead coverage & content. 👊🏻
@threeinningfan Yes, but it still sucks, Kelley. I’m a Mets fan, and the Mets are a disaster this season, but this isn’t Mendy’s mess. I agree with Gary Cohen who said that Mendy is the least culpable person in this whole equation. I always liked Mendy. Good guy. I feel bad for him.
"He's probably the least culpable of everybody that has contributed to this morass of a season that the Mets are in...but they had to do something. This is the move that teams make."
Gary Cohen reacts to the Mets firing Carlos Mendoza
The great unknown is whether Cohen/Stearns are influenced by outside noise when things get bad. But usually not a good sign for mgr when team's on-air voices are so declarative. G Cohen said the loss would bring organizational "re-evaluation." Zeile said team is "in disarray."
The whole run-prevention thing has become a form of satire around the Mets after 6 errors tonight, and it falls on Stearns. Nevertheless this was the kind of game, w/season spiraling out of control, that gets a mgr fired, and Mendoza looks and sounds numb to it all at this point.
Talk about taking one for the team! On his first game back, the Mets trotted out Francisco Lindor to face the media after tonight’s debacle. He hasn’t been around to work on digging the hole this team is in, but they sent him out to face the music. Brutal.
"This is the kind of game that causes re-evaluations. You can profess all you want about being confident in the team you have, but this has been nothing short of ugly." - Gary Cohen
Mendy almost speechless in the post-game presser. Using words like “embarrassing,” “unacceptable,” & admitting the cause is inexplicable. As Pat McCarthy said, this is hard to comprehend.
Intensifying the degree of failure with these Mets is the fact that this team has the second highest payroll in all of MLB. And they are just about the worst team in all of baseball.
We heard Gary, Ron, Howie, & Keith on air tonight. No one wants to “trust the process” any more.
What a mess! 50 runs allowed in the last 5 games. 6 errors tonight. 12 under .500.
A corner was turned tonight, tho. Gary & Ron on TV & Howie & Keith on radio called this “rock bottom” & said re-evaluation is needed. A common view that just continuing to fail isn’t acceptable.
Manea can’t even finish 4. This pattern can’t be sustained. It will take the one successful facet of this team, the bullpen, & burn it the ground. That’s why the present proximity to a wild card spot matters not. There will be no starting pitching or BP left come playoff time.
