Today I had the privilege of standing with my elected colleagues and healthcare providers to announce the recipients of Staten Island's share of the Opioid Settlement Fund - a total of $12 million, over four years, which will go directly to the following organizations:
@RUMCSI, @SIUHOSPITAL , @CHASINYC , @UAU_Inc, @SI_PPS, @SIPCWnetwork , @CamelotRecovery, and the @YMCACounseling.
Staten Island was originally excluded from NYC's share of the Opioid Settlement Fund because of bureaucratic red tape, which thanks to the advocacy of Staten Island's passionate service providers and elected officials, we were able to cut.
@timryley1 The “health care” system is truly a “sick care” system in the UK & US. The reorienting of the care current model will be more efficacious than creating a parallel system. The inevitable redundancies and communication lapses will undo the worthy goals of the move to prevention.
Wishing everyone a very Happy 4th of July!
As we celebrate the holiday, please join me in taking a moment to honor and thank the brave veterans and servicemembers whose sacrifices have ensured our freedoms for 248 years and counting. We owe it all to you. 🇺🇸

Today is Vietnam Veterans Day. It is our sacred responsibility to remember and acknowledge the tremendous sacrifices made by those who have valiantly served our country.
Earlier this week, I was proud to recognize a great friend, a Vietnam Veteran, and a Staten Islander: Dr. Vincent Joseph Maligno. Dr. Maligno and Vietnam Veterans from across the state joined us for lunch and were recognized as the Assembly passed a resolution in honor of Vietnam Veterans Day.
We can take pleasure in the freedoms and rights we value because of their bravery and dedication. Let us never forget their service and never stop working to ensure the sacrifices they made are respected and remembered for many years to come. Welcome home.
