If a team is inbounding the ball in their front court, they can legally throw the ball into the backcourt. If a players momentum takes them into the backcourt on an inbounds throw-in, it is not a backcourt violation.
One commonly misunderstood rule is the backcourt violation. In order for the ball to have front court status, all three points (both feet + ball) must fully cross the division line. This play is not a backcourt violation.
Once the ball has front court status, if one of the three points touches the backcourt (which includes any part of the division line), a backcourt violation has occurred.
@thedurvid Displacement. If a player jumps higher than the player in front of them that is not a foul. If they push or displace the person in front of them then it is a foul. We are just starting our recording so if you’re talking about a specific play, I haven’t seen much of the game yet.
@CorsonCole@jalons2 It’s a foul. You cannot pass on a clear foul because it’s the last possession of a big game. Switching the screen doesn’t negate calling a foul here. If it goes uncalled, Bueckers gets the ball to Edwards for a wide open game winning shot/layup attempt.
@thedurvid I believe the ref was saying the bump caused the travel/out of bounds violation. Those calls are tough to make when they’re marginal but if the contact causes a violation they’ve gotta go with the foul. Tough game to call!
@thedurvid Yeah the rules are tricky for what you can and can’t review. But the last two minutes you can review just about anything with a call on the floor.
