Stand up, Fight back!
Today, Trump announced an unnecessary and intentionally disruptive plan to further dismantle the Department of Education.

🚨NEW: Donald Trump has called for the firing of NBC Tonight Show Host Jimmy Fallon in the wake of the canceling of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Van Jones reacting to Jimmy Kimmel's show being pulled: "This is a red line that has been crossed for our industry. For the First Amendment, for the right of people to speak. There was nothing hateful about what was said."
Erin Burnett: "The job should be to speak truth to power, even when there are people who don‘t like the word truth anymore."
🚨 Rolling Stone just confirmed it; Disney pulled Jimmy Kimmel because they feared Trump would retaliate.
Emergency meetings. No rule broken. Just pure political fear.
This isn’t cancel culture. It’s corporate fascism.
Reshare. Boycott. Expose.
First they came for Stephen Colbert. Now they are coming for Jimmy Kimmel. If you think it'll stop here, you are fooling yourself.

The First Amendment bars the government from abridging "freedom of speech" or "the press." And it bars the government from censoring or favoring speech based on its viewpoint.
The Trump administration now admits to doing both, an unlawful abuse of power. The test is how the courts and people respond.
A bit more on the Pope Leo XIV's thoughtful response to the questions from @eliseannallen on LGBTQ matters, in preparation for her new biography "Leon XIV."
The Holy Father is 100% correct when he says that before anything else, it's a matter of changing "attitudes." One of the conversion experiences I had at the Synod was realizing that no matter how much you discussed or debated something, unless a person had a kind of conversion experience, where they came to see LGBTQ people as human beings (rather than as a stereotype, a category or an ideology), whatever you said would fall on largely deaf ears. No amount of argumentation or debate, no matter how well reasoned or informed, can substitute for what Pope Francis called a "culture of encounter." And, as Pope Leo said in today's interview, it also involves coming to know and respect a person.
Much of this has to do with people coming to know LGBTQ people as family members or friends. Nothing changes a person's attitude to LGBTQ issues faster than their child coming out to them. I've had many (perhaps a few dozen) experiences of people telling me that they had opposed LGBTQ ministry until their child came out to them. Suddenly they were all ears.
(Also, as more and more people come out, another phenomenon is quietly changing attitudes in the church: nieces and nephews coming out to bishops, priests and brothers and sisters.)
Short of that, a change in attitude can come from hearing stories about LGBTQ people from people they trust. There's a reason why Jesus taught in stories, not in definitions. When asked, "Who is my neighbor?" Jesus doesn't give a PowerPoint presentation on what it means to be a neighbor. Instead, he tells the Parable of the Good Samaritan. As the Old Testament scholar Walter Brueggemann once said, arguments can close our minds down, while stories can open them up.
So as we accompany the Holy Father in his pastoral ministry, let us pray for a change in attitude in those places in the church where LGBTQ people are still seen as "other." And let's pray for the Holy Father and for all the many other pressing issues (Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, etc.) that he must face every day.
BREAKING: In a bizarre moment, Brian Kilmeade — who recently said we should "just kill" mentally disturbed homeless via "lethal injection" — says that Jimmy Kimmel's innocuous comments about Charlie Kirk went "way too far..."
Irony is dead.
This commentary offers a clear, powerful statement of why freedom of speech is at the heart of democracy and must be defended, whether the speaker is Charlie Kirk or Jimmy Kimmel, MAGA supporters or MAGA opponents.
🚨NEW: Stephen Colbert has won the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series just months after CBS cancelled his show to gain favor with the Donald Trump.
