@JarrydJaeger @michaelgeller I don’t think it’s just due to taxes. I recently flew to Tokyo from Victoria BC with a stop in Vancouver. The roundtrip from Victoria to Vancouver on to Tokyo was $400 LESS than the exact same roundtrip Vancouver to Tokyo flight. Both departure cities would have the same tax.

Been on hold for over 2 hours. The flight has now been delayed by more than 5. The line at the WestJet counter is severely understaffed and moving somehow. We just bought tickets on another airline and will ask for a refund and compensation from WestJet.
