Since the sweltering day 35 years ago that James Hansen sat in front of the US Congress and announced that global warming "is here", we keep making the mistake of thinking this will be the heat wave, the storm, or the flood that forces the world to take climate action. (1/3)
@unclebobmartin If politicians wanted to act on climate change they would've by now. They don't need IPCC for that. The only reason they fund IPCC is so it would look like they're doing at least something. In the meantime they only care about the status quo.
@unclebobmartin @Appurist Basing your opinion solely on the skepticism is probably not healthy either. Most data does point to the direction of the experts being right on this one. Besides it's too big of a gamble to take. I also mostly see scientists yelling. Politicians are mostly diverting attention.
@EricHolthaus One correction: GHG don't add energy to the system, but they hamper energy leaving the system, having the same net effect.
What I do wonder is what effect solar will have on this. In the end, it's more energy added to the system that would otherwise be reflected back into space.
Eerlijke vraag.
“Let’s mobilise on war footing, that’s what is needed.”
Former Shadow Energy Secretary Barry Gardner says climate change is a war for survival and needs to be treated as such.

@PalmyraWolf @NickelDollar@MrMatthewTodd Are you suggesting the inhabitants of gobleki Tepe lived under two miles of ice?
Nobody claims it's been static, but I kind of prefer it when it supports human life.

1. I grew leeks commercially on my farm for 20 years. On a bad year I might lose 5-10% of the crop. Then one year it passed -15C for more than a week. I lost all the crop - every one of the 40,000 plants turned to sludge.

@NathanH04031213 @jamiejammo7@JustStop_Oil What makes you think they've been wrong? Everything we're seeing is exactly as was predicted (or if you go by IPCC reports, worse). If you're waiting for proof for complete extinction, you'll be to late to act.

It's time for the Corporate Media to step up and Tell the Truth.
We need system change. Now.
