Last week I turned 50.

Almost half of my life has been spent in medicine.

Years measured not just in time, but in patients seen, operations performed, complications faced, lessons learned, and lives touched.

Medicine slowly teaches you humility. The human body is complex, healing is sometimes not so straightforward and outcomes are never entirely in our control.

What we can offer is skill, judgment, compassion, and our best effort every single day.

Grateful for the journey so far.

Still learning. Still operating. Still serving.

I presented today at #WACS2026 Accra ,on endoscopic spine surgery.

Many people think endoscopy is mainly for “simple slipped discs.”

But its real strength is in more difficult cases — especially when a patient has had previous spine surgery and still has pain.

Instead of reopening large areas, we can use a small camera and targeted instruments to relieve pressure with less tissue damage and often faster recovery.

The power of technology is not in doing what is easy.
It is in helping us solve what is difficult — safely.

That’s where endoscopy truly shines.
