The reason some people didn’t want Rashford back is because of things like this. Individual player issues and commentary (player power) start to rear their ugly heads.

The “secret” to United’s modest success last term was that they flew under the radar. Players who dominated the off field news had been shipped out.

Everyone started putting in their shifts. Cunha, Mbeumo, Sesko, Dorgu… even Dalot stepped up in quite a few games. And of course, our captain Bruno. They all got stuck in. If a player was dropped or substituted, it wasn’t a big story. No drama. No endless debates. Just football.

Rashford coming back risks bringing back the bad old days of player power. The best thing would have been for Carrick not to let him back in.

Because very soon, the fan base will be divided again, every decision involving Rashford will become a talking point, and Carrick may not be able to handle it. We’ve seen this movie before.
