In a world overflowing with noise, notifications, and endless opinions, it is easy to look at everything and truly see nothing.

Today’s Gospel from Matthew 13:10-17 challenges this exact modern dilemma.

When the disciples ask Jesus why he speaks to the crowds in riddles, he drops a profound truth about human nature that feels incredibly relevant today.

He notes that many people look but do not perceive, and hear but do not understand.

We live in an information age, yet we often suffer from a wisdom deficit.

It is easy to skim the surface of life, scrolling past deep truths because our hearts are hardened by cynicism or distracted by the temporary.

Jesus quotes the prophet Isaiah to describe a state of spiritual burnout where "this people’s heart has grown dull."

In 2026, it is easy for our hearts to grow dull.

We get desensitized to global crises, neighborhood needs, and the quiet promptings of our own conscience.

But Jesus offers a beautiful alternative, telling his followers, "Blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear."

This isn't about intellectual superiority. It is a gentle invitation to slow down, unplug from the chaos, and look at the world through a lens of empathy and faith.

When we intentionally choose to truly listen to others and seek deeper meaning, we break free from the superficiality of modern life and begin to notice the divine grace hiding in plain sight. 🕊️
