I completely get that feeling of impending failure, absolutely based on mistakes we continually make. However, there is an alternative, more positive, take that will place us in a far better position by the conclusion of what can only be described as a season of dysfunction.

The main issue is that our scouting & recruitment department has been dysfunctional for years. Tisdale did nothing to address that; in fact, it got worse under his watch.

We previously got by on manger & agent recommendations, threw money in the hope that a few signings would work, whilst completely underfunding data-driven recruitment & global scouting.

After years of complacency, what we are seeing now is a club with no recognisable recruitment system to speak of, and no one competent enough to negotiate the deals.

But we need to find a short-term solution if we want to salvage anything from this campaign, then we can focus on building a modern and functioning scouting & recruitment model.

Up until Tisdale was found out & booted out, we were using his own bespoke data system (miles away from what would be considered gold standard) and were relying on a handful of scouts.

Shaun Maloney has been key to turning this around since he came back into the first-team fold.

He is the guy responsible for bringing in James Bell-Walker to work on scouting.

He has also been scoping out functional data recruitment system that would benefit the club in this window.

Once that is in place, we will only have a couple of weeks to identify the players we want, then do the deals.

Had Nancy & Tisdale still been here, you could have waved the title away for the next three years (at least).

We still have a chance to turn this round but we should never have been in this situation in the first place.
