This reminds me of job I had long time ago. Java was version 1.2 I believe. Manger and a programmer wanted to process a file with c++ and I wanted java. So we both wrote the program. Mine was faster by a lot. So we went thru my code buffer stream into memory. "That's cheating"

I can't believe that we're actually debating whether or why Rust — a systems level language meant to rival C/C++!! — would be much faster than the interpreted or GC-using alternatives people have historically used for web apps. Programming tribalism is a hell of a drug!

Skeleton crew by today's standards. Was purchased by a bigger company with AWS and a huge budget and headcount. Was shocked by the lack of functionality that we took for granted.

When I hear "legacy" code, I get spun up. Years ago the business and consultants started calling our code "legacy". We had a company wide framework for all apps and developers could move from one app or department pretty seamlessly. We ran it all with what would be considered a skeleton crew.
