.@Peston: Should he [Boris Johnson] be a Tory MP again?
@CPhilpOfficial: Let’s wait and see what the report says…
Home Office Minister @CPhilpOfficial refuses to say whether Boris Johnson should be able to stand again for Parliament
#Peston
The Privileges Committee recommends that if Boris Johnson were still an MP, he should be suspended for a humiliating 90 days "for repeated contempts and for seeking to undermine parliamentary process by deliberately misleading the house, deliberately misleading the committee, breaching confidence, impugning the committee and thereby undermining the democratic process of the house, [and] being complicit in the campaign of abuse and attempted intimidation of the committee". It also recommends stripping Johnson of the pass that would entitle him to continue to use parliament's facilities. MPs see Johnson as a kind of British Trump, trying to undermine parliament. In response Johnson says the committee is complicit in a "final knife thrust in a protacted political assassination".
NEW: Privileges Committee finds that Boris Johnson knowingly misled the House on several occasions and says that if he were still a member they would have a recommended a suspension of *90* days.
That’s nearly as severe as it gets.
This is the end of a story which began with Johnson's prorogation of parliament. It ends here, with another final act of contempt. He finally, belated, got his comeuppance.
The average prison sentence for a violent offence in England is 18 months. A woman who had an abortion without following correct procedures just got 28 months under an 1868 act- we need urgent reform to make safe access for all women in England, Scotland and wales a human right.
One thing that I always find funny is schools whose values *happen* to spell out their school nickname.
These are not values, this is an acrostic poem about your school.
🚨 Private education in the cabinet 🚨
61% of the cabinet attended a private school, our analysis found.
Just 7% of the UK population are privately educated, meaning the cabinet are nearly 9x more likely to have gone to a private school than the general population.
