SUPERGIRL’s box-office tracking is bleeding, and Warner Bros. is trying to stop it.
Early projections had the movie opening between $60–75 million.
NRG now reportedly has it around $51 million.
So Warner Bros. moved social reactions up six days.
That tells me two things:
They believe the movie is good.
And they need people saying it right now.
SUPERGIRL is trapped between TOY STORY 5 and MINIONS & MONSTERS, two family movies that will eat screens, premium formats, and audience money.
Comparing it to SUPERMAN’s $125 million opening is unfair. But opening near THE FLASH territory would still be a terrible headline for the second movie in James Gunn’s DCU.
Warner Bros. has confidence in SUPERGIRL.
The problem is confidence does not matter if nobody shows up opening weekend.
Can early word of mouth stop the bleeding, or did Warner Bros. sacrifice SUPERGIRL with this release date?
