@Rosisij@RichardHanania Debatable. In the long run even the people in the rent controlled units suffer. Now I will grant that they think they benefit but the quality of the service will decline. What’s more, they become locked into their units. They can’t move for fear of losing their reduced rents.
@kel93934@Paul_Heron_@HistoryBoomer I think you just leave it out. This is in the appendices not the main book. Most of the appendices were skipped. Not sure why this one little tidbit was so important to be left in.
The reason the elves are there is because PJ is wanted to have them fighting. That’s all.
@TheNextMazer@Paul_Heron_@HistoryBoomer But that’s how the actual book ends. I think the problem is that Peter Jackson chose to spend nearly an hour of screen time on Helm’s Deep. This is my major complaint with Jackson. He likes big spectacle battles and action too much (as evidenced by King Kong).
@kel93934@Paul_Heron_@HistoryBoomer And to be clear, I love the movies. I just disagree with a number of the changes Peter Jackson made.
In the examples you gave of the elves, they were just defending their homelands. They were never bringing the fight to Sauron as they were on their way out.
@Paul_Heron_@HistoryBoomer Faramir
Elves at Helm's Deep
(Note that I say this as someone who loves and appreciates the movies, but "as faithful as one could possibly hope for"? No)
@adamtanderson@StallionCornell The confederate flag has always been a symbol of racism from its very inception. I will grant that many people have been unwittingly duped into thinking it was something else through the years.
@felicityrevere@crobot1976@AlexTaylorNews You know I don’t go because I just told you I didn’t go. While the event may not be Trump only but he has presented all of this as being unwelcome to people like myself. To say otherwise is completely insane.
@KingHonkee@jesse_k_fox@nimber_9 I’ve been out for nearly 20y. I know a lot of people who have left. Very few left because they were bothered by the people. I’m not saying it’s unheard of, but definitely a small percentage.
@TechLayoffLover This is the sort of thing we've been hearing for decades. I'm not sure why AI transforms this calculus. Why haven't companies saved the $309k already? What about AI changes the math?
