Education and skilling play an important role in the development of any society and uplifting the most vulnerable sections. Empowering our people with education and skills is the bedrock of Viksit Bharat.

Hon’ble President Droupadi Murmu’s life is an inspiration. A teacher herself, she has been a vocal advocate for expanding opportunities of education and skilling, particularly for the transformative role they play in changing lives. The initiatives launched by her today is another important step towards future-proofing our citizens and empowering our learners in the AI age with relevant skills to thrive. India is one of the leading countries in digital adoption. Now, with AI presenting new opportunities, India is uniquely poised to lead the world. President Droupadi Murmu participated in AI for Beginners module and launched the #SkilltheNation challenge at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. She also virtually inaugurated the IGNOU Regional Centre and Skill Centre at Rairangpur, Odisha.

The President said that in the coming decade, AI will be playing a significant role in the country's GDP, employment, and overall productivity.

She urged students to remember that technology, knowledge and skills should be used to serve the society, find solutions to challenges, and empower others.

30th Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture | Building a Future-Ready Workforce: Education, Skills and the Digital Transition

Shri Suman K. Bery, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, delivered the 30th Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture on the theme “Building a Future-Ready Workforce: Education, Skills, and the Digital Transition" in the presence of Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU; Prof. Jeetendra Srivastava, Chairman, Organising Committee; and Mrs. Rama Reddy, among other esteemed guests and faculty members.

The lecture was held in honour of Prof. G. Ram Reddy, a visionary in the field of distance education and the founding Vice Chancellor of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

In his address, Shri Suman K. Bery underscored the urgent need to align India’s education and skilling systems with its dynamic economic ambitions. He emphasised that productivity-led growth will be key to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat, and highlighted the country’s demographic advantage, rapid digital transition, and structural economic transformation as critical enablers.

The lecture also drew upon national data, flagship initiatives such as the National Education Policy 2020 and Skill India Mission, and global best practices to outline a roadmap for inclusive and sustainable workforce development in the country.

Shri Suman K. Bery also inaugurated the SWAYAM PRABHA Studios, reinforcing the government’s commitment to leveraging digital platforms for expanding access to high-quality educational content and strengthening IGNOU’s leadership in open learning.
