Since creating a unit on sustainability I have become more aware of what is happening in the community to encourage sustainability. Recently at a music festival I saw two ways in which companies were encouraging sustainability. #UoNTeach#Sustainability@groovinthemoo
Whilst constructing a unit plan on sustainability I have realised the benefit of real-world problem solving. Students can answer any hypothetical question about sustainability but when you link the activities to the local community. This is invaluable. #UoNTeach
@ATaylorUON @groovinthemoo Yes I can see the benefits of this unit for myself as well as the students. As teachers we must always be developing our learning to engage and remain up-to-date with local news.
@kyliedbee Wow what a lovely idea. The kids would be so excited to have visitors to read with and I think Menβs Shed participants would love this too. #UoNTeach#MensShed
@KateLBurns I love this picture, simply breaking down Gardeners complex theory. Whilst completing this unit I have seen the benefits of cross KLA's and open ended tasks. This allows students of all intelligences to excel in their learning. #UoNTeach#GardenersMultipleIntelligences
@PhoebeWoodhead1 I agree. Until I completed this task I had never used Twitter and did not understand it's connection to teaching. Although now that I have used it and connected with many professionals in the field I understand it's importance as it has shaped my unit planning. #UoNTeach
@Samanth74933065 Thanks for sharing Samantha. Reflecting on my sustainability unit I have realised how valuable Twitter is in collecting resources and sparking lesson ideas. Connecting with other professionals in this way has been extremely beneficial and helped shape my unit planning. #UoNTeach
@kyliedbee Yes, in many cases students only see learning within the 4 walls of the classroom. We need to encourage generalising of skills and applying them to other contexts to develop students into life-long learners. #UoNTeach#RealWorldProblemSolving
@rickyandrewsuon@Mark53758519 Great reading. Yes a big concept like sustainability being the subject of their problem solving can have positive impacts on how the students respect the planet and make change. #UoNTeach
@ATaylorUON I also found a great website which looked at how different countries and cultures celebrated Christmas which you may find useful: https://t.co/hdh4HoqbFu
@ATaylorUON Yes. This was a very interesting lesson as I had a student of Seventh Adventist who did not celebrate Christmas at all and an Indian student who placed value on attending a Midnight Mass with family when he lived in India. #UoNTeach
