@BurrRachael The Melbourne Declaration has been a pivotal document in the development of 21st century learning Australia. Providing students with the opportunities to engage with the community in the strive to become active and informed citizens should be a great focus of our teaching.
@BurrRachael Identifying our community assets is essential to developing partnerships with the community which will benefit our students. Community based projects are rewarding for all involved and it caters to the diverse learning styles of students. #sustainablefutures
@ESHarvey13 That is awesome! I never knew about all their strategies. It would be a great website to look at with students through multiple KLAs as it addresses so many 21st century skills.
I have identified that a @MobileMuster1 concept is beneficial for developing the #21stcenturyskills students require to be active citizens in a community. A strengths based approach when participating locally and globally will also address the NSW General Capabilities. #UoNTeach
An integrated curriculum can assist in addressing the global perspective of 'sustainable futures' in a broader context. Identifying appropriate community assets can also add value to student learning in different KLAs through immersion (Arthur, 2019). #UoNTeach#communityassets
Reflecting on research, the most influential way of teaching responsible disposal of E-waste involves collaborating in a 21st Century setting. Students engaging in scientific inquiry with the assistance of community assets highlights #21stcenturylearning (Herring, 2014).#UoNTeach
E-waste solutions includes durable product designs, return systems, maximising reuse and demineralisation. Learning, reflecting and engaging the community with E-waste strategies enables us to empower students through the UN Sustainable Goals (Nijman, 2019). #UoNTeach#Ewaste
@Lindle98192700 @GovInstAus This is a great tool to use when Identifying community assets and approaching the most suitable provider. An insight into how we could implement community assets is through a resource like this:

Hunter Resource Recovery have published these interesting statistics for us to discuss when introducing a topic on waste. A visual representation for students to resonate with, that can lead into explicit teaching of waste disposal such as E-waste. #UoNTeach#sustainability
@MSBrown93157242 It is great to see big companies like Coca Cola take sustainability into account. Bringing a global view into the classroom will create a sense of importance to our students.
@MSBrown93157242@TGRecycling Thats right! As teachers it is our responsibility to empower younger generations and this article clearly states this. Thanks for sharing!
This infographic explores some thought provoking facts. In Australia 95% of our E-waste is recyclable although in 2013 we only recycled 18%!
Have a look below for some more findings. #UoNTeach#21stcenturyeducation#ewaste@TGRecycling
@MadisonBlanch1@ourplanet@WWF_Australia These steps would be a great way to get the students to think creatively and ponder how they could effectively implement meaningful strategies to benefit the environment. Perhaps sharing the students' strategies to a local organisation to gain their knowledge and feedback.
@MadisonBlanch1 For PDHPE the resource 'Yulunga Traditional Indigenous Games' explores lots of animals through physical activity. Some of those animals may be endangered so it is worth a look as it would be an exciting way to learn. Hope that helps!
Learning about the environmental damage of E-waste disposal into landfill, I can reflect and identify that my previous practices of E-waste disposal were not ethical and responsible. I aim to empower my students through this knowledge. #UoNTeach#Ewaste#21stcenturyskills#edchat
@UoN_brooke Definitely, it creates relevance to their learning where they can make explicit connections to real-world instances. I think this activity would be very beneficial when exploring the topic of E-waste. Thanks!
This image would be a perfect stimulus for students to use for creative writing. How could we use the students writing to take action in the community? Maybe a letter to the local council in response to what the students have learnt through the topic. #UoNTeach#Ewaste#edchat
@russell_uon It is interesting to read a counter-perspective to technology as it seems todays generation are very pro-technology. Definitely something to consider when seeking a balanced approach.
What are your thoughts on preparing our students to be fully capable technology users? are we slowly losing other life skills such as handwriting and social understanding through the pressure to implement technology into our classrooms?

"While academic achievement is critical to competence, most students are not prepared to meet the problems and opportunities they will face in their schools, colleges and ultimately the workplace."
