Like 99.9 percent of every story is based of pre-established cliches. I feel like a lot of people just don't like genre fiction (or reading in general) and feel a need to justify their dislike as a principled stand against fiction they deem harmful in someway

I do think one of the most important things the movie "american fiction" talks about is how ppl mistake their streotype of what they think a story is about, based on the book's cover. Can actually be just projection of what they think is wrong with a genre of fiction.
