A look back at the #HLM2026AIDS📸
With a new bold Political Declaration, the world has kept the promise of 25 years ago to end AIDS as a public health threat.
Now is the time to turn collective commitments into action.
If we do these things, we can end AIDS:
👉🏾 Commit to multilateralism, and to the shared targets before you.
👉🏾 Sustain international financing, as countries mobilise their own resources.
👉🏾 Protect the rights of people living with HIV to reach lifesaving services.
👉🏾 Free the space, and let communities lead.
👉🏾 Spur the science, so that innovations reach everyone in need as fast as possible.
Let’s make sure we are able to look 40 million people living with HIV around the world in the eye and say: we kept the promise.

Thank you Germany 🇩🇪 for your longstanding support of UNAIDS.
At #HLM2026AIDS, Georg Kippels, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Health, announced a voluntary contribution of EUR 6.75 million to the UNAIDS Joint Programme in 2026. #UnitedToEndAIDS
Germany provides an additional EUR 6.75 million to @UNAIDS, supporting an effective global response to #endAIDS.
We remain committed to a strong partnership as one of UNAIDS’ main donors, to stop new infections and ensure access to treatment.
Lenacapavir is one of the most exciting innovations in the history of #HIV.
My congratulations to #SouthAfrica for being among the first countries to launch the national lenacapavir programme.
Looking ahead, South Africa has the opportunity not only to scale up access, but to contribute to regional production and supply, strengthening health security across the continent.

Yesterday I visited Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, where a separate unit has been prepared to treat #Ebola patients. I'm glad for the opportunity to meet with health workers in charge and thank them for their dedication. I am very happy with all the work invested in preparedness and readiness that I have witnessed.
I commend the Government of #Uganda for the work being done to control Ebola and provide care for those affected. Uganda’s leadership has been central to the response, and @WHO remains committed to supporting national efforts to stop transmission, save lives and protect communities.
Mwebale nnyo.
Four sets of brothers are currently playing for different national teams at the 2026 World Cup: Nico Williams is representing SPAIN while his brother Iñaki Williams is playing for GHANA; Désiré Doué is playing for FRANCE and Guéla Doué is lining up for the IVORY COAST; Brian Brobbey is representing the NETHERLANDS while Derrick Luckassen is playing for GHANA; and John Souttar is turning out for SCOTLAND while Harry Souttar is playing for AUSTRALIA.

I am in #Uganda, where the government has mounted a prompt and capable response to the outbreak of #Ebola.
Screening at the borders helped detect cases arriving from neighbouring #DRC, and the country’s surveillance, testing and case management systems are doing steady work. Of the 19 confirmed cases so far, 14 were among people who entered from DRC and five are Ugandan nationals. Sadly, two people from DRC have died, and our thoughts are with their families.
@WHO is supporting Uganda, alongside @AfricaCDC and partners across the region, as the country leads this response.
With continued collaboration, I am confident this outbreak can be brought under control.
@KibazoPeter, a polite reminder that as you spend the first 30 minutes of the show in casual jokes and chat, your competitor shows get straight to the point.
Stigma and misinformation drive people away from care and undermine outbreak response.
The AIDS response taught us this.
Actively addressing both must be central to the Ebola response.
Today, I joined family and friends in celebrating the life of Timothy Muwanguzi, son of CID Director Tom Magambo Rwabudongo. My heartfelt condolences go out to his parents, relatives, and friends for the loss of such a visionary young man at only 19 years. During the gathering, we agreed that Timothy’s legacy should live on through something meaningful that will continue to inspire others for generations to come.
#Ebola is a serious public health threat requiring urgent, coordinated action. The international community must move quickly, with resources, expertise and solidarity.
Despite the tyranny of numbers that overwhelmed us, we declare that ours was not a numerical challenge but a moral challenge. We took up a fight everyone was cowering from and faced attacks from many quarters including from friends blinded by short term considerations. Many counseled me to throw in the towel fearing the outcome of the ballot. When the counting started, one MP told me that due to strict partisan voting I would be lucky to get ten votes. I put my seat on the line by telling him that if I got less than ten votes I would resign from Parliament. That aside, despite the opposition we faced, the fight was worthwhile. Thanks to the power of outrage fueled by many patriots, Parliament can breathe again. Our collective efforts brought a gush of fresh air in Parliament.
We all have a stake in ensuring that the parasites that benefit from maligning Uganda do not win.
Zero cases of Ebola in #Uganda.
No one in Uganda has tested positive for #Ebola
Speaking to reporters, WHO's @DrTedros declared that the deadly #Ebola crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was a public health emergency of international concern, 'not a pandemic emergency'.

“The next five years of the HIV response will be determined by what happens now.”
At the #HLM2026AIDS Multi-Stakeholder Hearing, UNAIDS Deputy Exec Director @AchrekarAngeli underscored the urgency of bold commitments and collective action to sustain progress towards ending AIDS.
Having Arsenal fans in your house is risky business. My sons are screaming and jumping like they have seen a Rolls Royce in the compound. Security operatives might raid us anytime.
