To get a better feeling for piece placement in different openings, I thought that it might be interesting to look at heatmaps of the piece positions.
Here are the heatmaps for the exchange variation in the QGD.
I've written more about it here: https://t.co/00w7dUlbCQ

I tried to get a good overview of game 6 from the Carlsen-Nepo match with engines. Here are some plots about the game, you can find the full post here: https://t.co/MA0plrJztO #chesspunks#chess
After many sharp OTB games, I had a more positional game this week. It felt really nice to win a game that felt under control. But I missed the chaos a little bit #chesspunks#chess
I lost my league game this weekend. The game was very interesting, and I liked my position. But I think that Nc5 was a bit too impatient and afterwards the tactics were working for White #chesspunks
Somehow I had again a classical game where I got into a lot of trouble (I blundered 2 pawns) but then got counter play and won in the end. My results currently are really good but I feel like I play inaccurately. Maybe it's normal because my game got so much sharper #chesspunks
Played an interesting league game today. Not sure about my decision to give up the pawn on b2, but the game was very complex. I missed quite a few moves by my opponent but in the end he was in time trouble and I won #chesspunks#chess
I've tried to find some reasons behind the top engine moves by looking at threats and finding piece manoeuvres. Check out my post about it:

This study is by A. Wotawa, 1951. White to move and win.
The solution is quite long, but once you find the right idea, it's not too difficult #chesspunks#chess
This position is from the game Blohberger-Amar, from round 7 of the Olympiad.
I found the top line of the engine quite instructive: 1.Ng4 (Threatening Nh6+ and Be5, so Black should take control of the diagonal) d3 2.Nf2! White goes back to pick up the pawn that was forced to move
I drew my last round game. I'm a bit frustrated since I think that I should have won it. I don't know how I missed Qc1+ instead of Nd2+... But overall the tournament was still a big success and I'm happy with my play overall #chesspunks
Round 7 was the first game in the tournament where I got a bad position out of the opening. I thought that White was much better, but as soon as he allowed the exchange of DSBs, I felt in control and pieces came to life. The win from there wasn't too difficult #chesspunks
I also lost my round 6 game. Again, I was quite happy with my position out of the opening, but then I started to play too optimistically and my position fell apart #chesspunks
I lost my round 5 game. Again, I was very happy with my position out of the opening, but when I tried to find something concrete, I felt like I couldn't calculate. I overestimated my chances after my opponent gave up their queen and then missed some key ideas #chesspunks
I won my game against an IM!
I was happy with my play early on and was already thinking about getting a draw, but then I got into a bit of trouble. Fortunately for me, he overpushed and I managed to use that chance and win #chesspunks
I'll play against an IM today! It's the first time I'm playing against a titled player in classical chess, so I'm really looking forward to it #chesspunks
I drew my round 3 game with Black. I was really happy with the position out of the opening and I played all the manoeuvres confidently. But 27...Na5 was just a bad oversight. I managed to win a pawn for the second time, but couldn't convert the ending in time trouble #chesspunks
