Who is buying small/micro cap stocks? Most of the money flows into passive funds. A $20 billion hedge fund isn’t interested in trying to invest $5-10 million in a sub $250-500 million market cap stock. Most actively managed value funds are gone. There is enormous mispricing in small/micro cap stocks. Some are dogshit. Many are not. It has nothing to do with information. It’s structural.
@DrSuneelDhand AI will solve this. It is already outperforming most doctors in initial diagnosis and we’re in the first inning. In 2-3 years it won’t be close. There will be no place for shitty DEI doctors
Nobody is arguing moral imperative. The point is, markets work but often slowly. If u want lower prices long term u need more supply. How do u get that? The current margins will incent additional supply but it takes time. Abd the fact that the rancher is FINALLY making money—good for him/her. And u can always buy chicken or pork if you don’t want to buy beef
Not sure why I’m even going to bother, but…Low margin doesn’t mean it’s a bad biz. It’s about return on equity. Kroger grocery stores has averaged around 20 % ROE despite low margins bc of huge volume. A ranchers ROE is extraordinarily low. Even at current margins it’s very low considering the amount of capital it takes to raise cattle. Regardless, if you want lower beef prices, you need more supply. You want more supply, it has to make economic sense to raise cattle. It currently does. But it rarely has and that’s created the current problem. And it takes a long time to fix. Breed a cow today and it’s gonna take you almost 2 1/2 years until the calf is ready to be butchered.
Raising cattle (ranching) is literally one of the worst businesses I’ve ever seen. Great lifestyle, remarkably bad business until recently. Why has the herd size gotten so small? Bc in the last 70 years they’ve made just enough money to survive. Ranchers are old. Their kids and grandkids decided they didn’t want to work their asses off and make no money. The last 3 years has been the exception to the rule for the last 7 decades
