Look at URA Towers. Twenty-two whole floors of opportunity. Honestly, if the guys here just dumped the lift and took a quick two flights of stairs... say, every hour or so? Just a rapid up-and-down. Man, every single one of them would easily be rocking sharp slim-fit suits.
The charges that have been brought against @TimKalyegira can be brought against anyone. As long as you have a social media account or a blog, you are just as guilty of those charges as Timothy is, unless you got a licence from UCC before opening that account or blog. Moreover, even if you closed the blog in 2010, they can write, on the charge sheet, that you have been running it since 2014. Facts don't matter. Maybe they will matter during the trial, but, by the time you stand for trial, you will have spent some time on remand -- and so they will have achieved their goal, which is punishing you.
The other reason why his arrest shatters the illusion that anyone is safe is that, unlike Dr. Stella Nyanzi or Kakwenza or Ssemakadde, there has never been anything in his language that you could describe as vulgar or abusive. He has always used clean English, in every sense of the word clean. But that has not saved him.
Almost all the people that were "droned" before had done something that I couldn't see myself doing or had used some language I couldn't see myself using. But there is nothing Timothy has ever done that I can't see myself doing. That's why I can't fool myself anymore that I am safe.
You have heard of frenemies but are probably yet to hear of fanemies. I have never read the term anywhere, so I am assuming it's original, but, in my time on social media, I have seen so many people that could be described by it.
Fanemies are people you don't know from Adam, and who really don't know you from Adam, but who religiously read your social media content in silence, waiting for a post they can feel competent to criticise. When they finally get such a post, they bare all their fangs in criticism.
If they were not your fans, they would mute or block you. But, no, they cannot do that. They have to keep reading whatever your post, waiting for a chance to pounce. Perhaps their belief is that the only way to catch your attention -- which they clearly crave -- is by criticising you.
I am not anybody's fanenemy. I use the mute button readilly whenever I have a problem with anybody's posts or personality. I don't crave anybody's attention. I am the Nicklison.

Sometimes, you hear someone say something, and you just know that they will be picked up, as long as they are in the country. When you live under a regime long enough, you acquire an intuitive sense of its red line.
There are some things Mr. Kyagulanyi said on the campaign trail for which I instantly knew he would be picked up. They restrained themselves from picking him up before the elections because they needed the legitimacy that came with his full participation in the election exercise. But, as soon as the elections got out of the way, they had to look for him . Perhaps he, too, intuitively realised that he had crossed the red line (or hit below the belt) and decided to flee before they arrived.
Now, there are some people who say that it's cowardly to be mindful of the red line. They argue that we are free people and should say whatever we want. But most of those people usually post such advice from abroad!
Here in Uganda, when you pick a fight, you should bear in mind that you will most probably fight alone. Those of us who have ever engaged "public interest battles" know this. And if you know that the adversary is such that you can't win when you fight alone, avoiding him is not cowardice but wisdom. The English say that discretion is the better part of valour.
I don't stop any of you from engaging in whichever battles you like. But as for me and my house, we will be mindful of the regime's red lines. I have fought enough battles for this country to know the sort of country it is.
In 2017, I didn't need to be a seer to see that Raphael Magyezi would be one of the new faces in the next cabinet.
Tonight, I don't need to be a seer to see that Jacqueline Mbabazi will be one of the new faces in the 2026 Cabinet if the Old Man gets sworn in for another term.
Not everyone that runs for political office does so with the hope, let alone the expectation, of winning. Some simply seek to put certain messages across.
I don't know whether Abraham Luzzi expects to win the Kampala Central seat. But, whether he wins or not, I hope that his kiyamba-mwe slogan percolates deep into our political psyche. If, as a voter, you are not sure that giving someone your vote benefits you, rather than them, you probably shouldn't give it to them.
Even here on X, if you are not sure that following someone benefits you, rather than them, you probably shouldn't follow them.
2/2: Most coughs and flus are caused by viruses and are self-limiting. They improve with rest, fluids, and supportive care. Only a small fraction, such as severe bacterial respiratory infections
(e.g., bacterial pneumonia), truly require antibiotics.#FightAMR#RationalDrugUse
Thousands of tonnes of pesticides banned for use in the EU have been exported for use in Africa – a striking example of Europe’s double standards in environmental and human rights protection.

1/2: Stop the unnecessary use of IV drugs!
💉Attention clinicians & parents: unwarranted IV therapy increases the risk of bloodstream infections, with cannulas placed unnecessarily or left in too long. Oral medications are just as effective with fewer risks and lower costs.
Sunday Morning is for cycling 🚴♀️, church is for evening.
And here’s my reason why I had stopped eating at StoneHaven but their breakfast was good today 😆
My office staff call me sir, and even when I cough, someone rushes in to ask what I am saying. But I am sure the day I lose this office, none of this will happen again https://t.co/X8a2UYSfeo #MonitorUpdates
It seems it's true that practice makes perfect. In this video, my voice is clear. I can certainly hear myself throughout, which was not the case with the previous videos.
Normal grief after a loss is not considered a mental illness it’s a natural human experience. HOWEVER Prolonged Grief Disorder was added to the DSM-5-TR in the 2022 update.
Lasting 12+ months (6 for kids), with intense yearning, difficulty accepting the loss, and major life disruption beyond cultural norms.
Timothy Kalyegira has often drawn attention to the irony of Africans, the people most obsessed with money, doubling as the people with the least of it.
Another interesting irony is that Africans are the people with the most obsession with academic papers and titles, and the people whose academic papers and titles rarely translate into any societal transformation.
I am not an activist. I am not a news commentator. I am not a social media influencer or entrepreneur. I am a philosopher.
I think a large fraction of the 7500 followers I previously had didn't understand this. All the people I blocked certainly didn't get it. They assumed that I was one of them.
I hope that, in this new "season", I will only be followed by those who are looking for a philosopher.
