hotd's biggest problem is that it's too american. like yeah of course everything bad is an accident or a misunderstanding, that's the only framework americans have for understanding war in a way that encourages sympathy for everyone involved
Rhaena is deadass maybe 3 sentences in the Dance, she has no arc, she doesn’t even have like characteristics. The only reason she’s even mentioned is so that the reader knows Daemons got another kid so that there’s no surprise when she and Morning pop up in the Regency
@Nova2punkt0@fabiola_liano Having a character rolling around in your head that you’ve really become attached too for decades, someone you clearly want to write about just… not be adapted would hurt especially since you might not ever get to write about them.
#HouseOfTheDragon Showrunner Ryan Condal explains why Rhaena took over the storyline originally held by Nettles in the source material. 🐉
“It just felt to us that because again, this story is told in point of view, that it felt more apt as this is a family story to where we had the opportunity to involve one of the family members in the storyline.
And because Rhaena has been set up since season 1 as the member of this family wdoesn’t have a dragon and basically her sole identity is the Targaryen kid wdoesn’t have a dragon, it felt like that was a character that we had already set this long runway for that it could be very satisfying for the TV audience that didn’t have an experience with the book at all to see that character claim a dragon and then in a very, I think, Game of Thrones and Westerosian kind of way, to reap the consequences of having her wish come true. It’s a very monkey’s paw kind of moment for Rhaena. She gets her great wish and it becomes her greatest nightmare.”

@Nova2punkt0@fabiola_liano Dramatically and thematically having Daemon and Rhaena go after the guy who represents their worst qualities is an awesome idea. But if I were GRRM I’d be furious lmao and I’d be even more mad if it actually works.
@ThePalePharaoh@coopercooperco Rhaena in F&B doesn’t have a journey let’s be real. She’s in the Vale primarily because George needs her to do stuff in the Regency and doesn’t want to add another dragon rider to an already crowded cast.
@bestmanofonline@coopercooperco Ultimately all of the kids on both sides were failed by their parents and society at large and the things they do and why they do them is an outgrowth of that failure
@bestmanofonline@coopercooperco Jace locking his mom up out of insecurity and frustration and running headlong into his death, Rhaena trying to help and screwing things up, Baela not trying to stop any of it. It’s just one impulsive teen decision after another.
@MeyerClarkmjnm Ultimately HOTD is a capital R Romantic show, it’s always going to prize intense emotions and what drives them over clean rational plot mechanics. It doesn’t always work, but I think what it’s trying to do is admirable.
It’s the opposite tbh, the show has had a clear vision of where it’s taking both Rhaenyra and Alicent since the beginning. It’s so singularly committed to its vision of these characters that it’s almost a flaw tbh.
@MeyerClarkmjnm I don’t disagree that the logistics of the stuff like the Sept scene are iffy and could’ve been handled better. I just think their dynamic is interesting tbh
@MeyerClarkmjnm Alicent only kind of sees her that way, while Alicent was genuinely angry at Rhaenyra a huge part of the feud was just her projecting onto Rhaenyra and rationalizing away her own suffering as “righteous”.
@MeyerClarkmjnm The only person who knew Rhaenyra to that extent is Alicent and she’s also the one who first “betrayed” her by marrying Viserys something she never really got over.
@MeyerClarkmjnm Rhaenyra can’t let Alicent go primarily because while she’s had more of a life than Alicent has. She’s had nobody who could really see or recognize her for who she is outside of what she represents. The closest is Daemon and their relationship is complicated to say the least
@MeyerClarkmjnm Alicent clings on to the past because when you look at it how has her life gone since she was 14 ? Kids she didn’t want, a cause that she adopted out of spite but was never truly hers, a rotting husband and a life spent lying to herself about why she suffers so much.
@MeyerClarkmjnm Primarily because the period of time in which they were close was the closest thing either of them had to living the lives they wanted to live. Alicent was forced to marry Viserys and while Rhaenyra had more freedom she still was bound by the constraints of her title and gender
Porra olha a diferença na direção desse episódio tosco de Game of Thrones em comparação com a merda seca de House of the Dragon foi hoje com a Batalha da Goela... Não é o mesmo universo NUNCA
