Hello Nyakundi,
Please hide my identity.
I need your help in raising concern about what is currently happening with Social Health Authority services.
Since the beginning of this week, beneficiaries and dependants under comprehensive SHA cover are reportedly being denied access to PHC services despite monthly deductions still being made from employees’ salaries.
I personally tried seeking clarification from SHA and was told to look for facilities offering comprehensive services. The problem is that many people, especially those living in rural areas, only have access to nearby Level 2 or smaller facilities which do not offer comprehensive services.
What confuses and frustrates many contributors is this: if deductions are still being made every month from our salaries, why are we suddenly unable to use PHC services at the facilities available near us?
Did SHA consider the reality facing people in remote areas before implementing these restrictions? Not everyone has access to large hospitals or higher-level facilities nearby. Some wananchi now have to travel long distances or pay cash despite faithfully contributing every month through payroll deductions.
Many workers feel stranded and confused because the system is now limiting access to healthcare while still deducting money from employees without interruption.
This issue urgently needs clarification because ordinary Kenyans are suffering silently while trying to access basic healthcare services they are already paying for.
