Did you know that you can use bacteria to create insulin? This 1978 discovery is thanks to Dra. Lydia Villa-Komaroff, the third Mexican-American woman to earn a doctorate in the US, and today's #LatinxHeritageMonth highlight! #LatinxInSTEM#HispanicHeritageMonth2022
Outside of the Noble Prize, there are a few awards and honors that let you know a scientist is a big deal. Today, we’re honored to highlight Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi (@CarolynBertozzi), the current biggest deal to happen to chemistry. #pride#Pride2021#LGBTQinSTEM#LGBTinSTEM
Dr. Villa-Komaroff’s ingenuity in science and creating technology is where she now spends her time as a senior executive and board member for many biotech, public, and private institutions. Thank you for all you’ve done Dr. Villa-Komaroff! #HispanicHeritageMonth#LatinxInSTEM

We celebrate the amazing work of Scarlin Hernandez in furthering our understanding of our universe and her work in promoting STEM within our community. Thank you Scarlin! #HispanicHeritageMonth#LatinXHeritageMonth#WomeninSTEM
For #HispanicHeritageMonth, we celebrate the amazing work of Scarlin Hernandez (@ScarlinsUnivers ), a spacecraft engineer for @NASA. Scarlin works on the James Webb Space Telescope (#JWST) and was part of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) team.
Scarlin's message to the world is that going the distance is your only option and that when you believe in yourself you can make the impossible possible. She created a women empowerment program at her workplace and hopes to continue that work through coaching in the future.
Along with her scientific work, she is heavily involved in promoting science within her community and mentoring future underrepresented groups in STEM. Through her journey, she hopes to inspire the younger generation to not fear STEM and believe in themselves.
At NASA, she worked on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) mission to study far off galaxies. Her work involves coding and testing the programming of the telescope. Her contributions allow for the successful deployment and controlling of JWST.
We're half way through September which means it's the start of #LatinxHeritageMonth/#HispanicHeritageMonth! 🤩
Join us over the next 4 weeks to learn about the fascinating contributions Hispanic and Latinx folks made in #STEM!
