@jbouie@toesdontglow@C_GraceT there’s a place like this in Tokyo that lets you rent all night, meaning you enter as it gets dark, step out in the middle for noodles or whatever, and finish in the morning with the sun rise. A magical experience
@blotterfan@rebeccajtiffany Take a train 30 minutes outside Tokyo and you’ll find plenty of room for 2-3 story houses with space for two cars. The small apartments in Tokyo like in the OP are for single workers and couples.
@IDoTheThinking Does BART being broad gauge cause compatibility issues? Like you can’t thru-run anything to Watsonville/Monterrey. Also going to SF means running through the whole east bay (too slow?)
@IDoTheThinking If this were japan they would have dug a rail tunnel in the 1950s. Do you think there’s enough demand to support a Caltrain-level service on new track?
@samthielman the tv series Amphibia does something very similar in terms of world-building that you only see a small part of. As an adult, its commentary on economic collapse & ecological collapse was amazing - and all shown, rarely told.
@sangobouro I don't know you at all, but please reconsider. your drawings are great. maybe they are hard to make right now, but our interests come and go -- you've drawn before, and you'll be able to again. from one manic-depressive to another :)
@Gaijinotousan oh man these are great for the kids. hope you have a chance to take him to whichever seaport is closest and you can get a chirashi-don from an 100-year-old grandma
@jam_etc I'm from the US but don't live there anymore, and when I go back to see family it sometimes feels like, everytime I have a convo, I have to build back up a knowledge pattern (muscle) that's been dormant for years.
@jam_etc it's experiential, but it's also like a muscle. you have to keep exercising (ie: reading) to keep understanding it.
