The critical difference was that in 1974, Republicans weren’t evil, power-mad seditionists. They were simply more conservative than smart.
Today’s Republicans aren’t conservative at all. They’re anti-democratic, pro-fascist imbeciles who hate truth, science, reality, & freedom.
Jon Ossoff: “There’s something uniquely despicable about lying a nation into war. Treating citizens as fools and the selfless patriots who serve as pawns. Earlier this year, they claimed there was an imminent nuclear threat after last year they told us they had obliterated that threat. Both times lies. On day 12 of this war, the president said we won. On day 14, Secretary Hegseth said Iran’s military was destroyed. Five months later, we’re still bombing, Americans are still dying, Iran still has its uranium, the Strait of Hormuz is still closed. I challenge anyone to defend this. A war built on lies told by a White House that is utterly absent any figures of integrity to dissuade this president from his delusions”
“In 2014, Fauci managed and directed the funding for research for an Ebola vaccine. When a Dallas nurse caught the virus while she cared for a dying man, Fauci put onprotective gear and went into the isolation room himself. Eight days later, he walked the nurse out in public and hugged her.”

Buttigieg: You don’t have to be a lifelong Democrat to believe that one job ought to be enough in the American economy. You don’t have to be a bleeding-heart liberal to see that costs need to go down and wages need to go up, not the other way around.
You don’t have to belong to this political party or that political party to recognize that God does not belong to any political party in the United States of America, or to insist that people of every faith and any faith, if any, all deserve equal treatment, respect, dignity, and safety in this country.
“The GOP has become deranged and captive to conspiratorial thinking. It draws energy from the dark passions. Many people within the party, especially within its leadership and the right-wing ecosystem, delight in destroying institutions and individuals” https://t.co/oEq4rQcmpt
How about we worry about the Colorado River drying up and forget the Reflecting Pool for a minute. One is decorative. The other provides water for 40 million people.
Congress passed a law this year specifically banning what Trump just did to the Forest Service.
He did it anyway. Nobody's stopping him.

The belief in a non-existent "censorship industrial complex" now shapes American foreign policy.
A brilliant deep dive from the MIT Technology Review explains how this happened

I went to the Senate floor today to ask a simple question.
Can any of my Republican colleagues defend the President's disgusting new scheme to sell early access to White House announcements about the war for $100,000 a month?
Of course they can't.
"Each President is a temporary tenant, not the owner, of the White House and its Executive Residence. The President has no—and claims no—constitutionally assigned authority over that property"
In sweeping, 136-page ruling, DC appeals court blocks construction of Trump ballroom
$4 BILLION. That’s how much the Trump Administration has now spent paying companies to cancel offshore wind projects that would have lowered your electric bill.
Yes, you heard that right: they are PAYING to keep more energy off the grid and your bills higher.
The latest deal hands a foreign energy company $1.2 billion to abandon offshore wind projects off New York, California, and Louisiana.
And we've seen them pull this scam before. They paid a company nearly $1 billion to invest in gas projects, and it turned out the company was already planning to make those investments anyway. Trump got nothing for you in return.
He hates wind power so much that he has now spent nearly $4 billion of your money making it disappear.
Twelve leases canceled, billions of taxpayer dollars gone, and power for millions of homes wiped away just like that.
You’re paying for this twice: once when the government spends your tax dollars to block the cheapest energy available, and again on your electric bill when utilities have no choice but to keep running expensive coal instead.

@Dr_TheHistories 1979 is definitely wrong I was there and practiced at his Juso dojo. He was at least a sixth dan in 79. I met his wife and saw his toddler son in about 77-78. I quit bc. He was such a pompous jerk. But he knew his stuff for sure.
That this outrageous statement celebrating imperialism was not page one news today underscores how numb we have become to Trump.
This is not normal!
In my view, this is un-American! We are not imperialists. Who believes, "to the victor belong the spoils"? I dont.
This money belongs to the people of Venezuela, not us.
Sixty-one years ago, the Voting Rights Act became the law of the land after generations of Americans refused to accept that the right to vote should depend on who you are.
Today, we have a Supreme Court that gutted the Voting Rights Act and a Republican Party that wants to cheat to steal power from the people. They are scared of your power and want you to believe your vote does not matter.
Let me be clear: Your voice and your vote are your power. Never let anybody take your power.
Let us remember the leaders who made the progress of the Voting Rights Act possible, and let us honor them by continuing to fight for the freedom to vote for every American.
Republicans have the majority in the Senate and House and they're telling you they cannot rein Trump in, so stop giving them power. They're telling you they refuse to use it.
