@JessicaTonMD@AjvictoryMD I completely agree. It was a routine consult. That particular attending was too far gone for anything I would have said to change his ways. I hope I at least got through to the intern to prevent him from becoming that attending
@AjvictoryMD I was a visiting fellow on an elective. I reported to my PD and the attending I was working with there. I also called the intern the next day and had a calm, respectful, learning opportunity conversation. He was appropriately mortified.
I am often asked about "work-life balance".... Honestly, this is pretty nebulous, and I think it's ultimately an unfair concept....
....The real truth is that it is a work-life pendulum, where sometimes my family takes precedence, and other times when my patients come first. 💖
If PDs think being a parent in residency means residents can’t do their job well, the problem is w their residency. Many residents are 26-35yo, and many do fellowship after. To address burnout, don’t force trainees to choose between having a family & being excellent doctors #WIM https://t.co/jgzcepFwtT
"Most program directors (82.8%) felt that becoming a parent negatively affected resident performance and approximately half of program directors believed that having a child in residency decreased wellbeing (50.9%)." From our OBGYN colleagues🤔... Pardon?! https://t.co/Ak7i4Y6m6K
Many trainee female surgeons consider leaving field after pregnancy https://t.co/rGpXPKhbw7
Why? Unmodified work schedules, short maternity leave, stigma, inadequate lactation and childcare support, lack of mentorship

A truism in the #HeForShe movement.
We recognize all the efforts.
But we need more action.
Eliminate the disparity. Equal pay for equal work. Equal opportunities.

Suggestions related 2 #workplace culture @kristiriordan: "We need to establish cultural & social norms that give women the connection & context they need to succeed & move up. Women can create new norms, build new groups to cultivate connections.." @WomenatForbes @RedShoeMovement https://t.co/U5vtt9BzM5

Here's a Q? I would like to see some answers
My A: I believe that once you have a trainee in your program, u should consider them family and do everything u can for them: finding resources, flexibility in training etc. We are in this together. From the beginning #SurgTweeting https://t.co/oFBFZLcodw
@FaaBoulos 👆Important point! We are #bettertogether, be it through the good times as well as the bad. We are all human, we are flawed, and we all fall eventually ... our goal is to pick each other back up #surgtweeting#surgtribe
A1 I want them to understand that it is exhausting to have to combat sexism every day. It takes so much energy to smile and be polite to the 300th person who assumes I am someone other than the surgeon AFTER I introduce myself. #WomenInMedicine
Residency is demoralizing and isolating.
Please please please... if you’re feeling low, discouraged, hopeless, reach out to someone.
You are not alone.
You are not weak for seeking help.
It can and will get better.
