I understand the alleged reason for it, but it is absolutely batshit insane that the prosecutors in the Karmelo Anthony case agreed not to tell the jury that Anthony was openly fantasizing about stabbing someone only hours before he killed Metcalf. This was premeditated murder. They had the evidence right there and never used it.

Lindsay Clancy’s “support system” is not responsible for her actions. She is an adult with agency that chose with that agency, to murder her own children.

Was she sick in the head? Absolutely.

Is that EVER an excuse for violence against your own children? No.

A mother committing violence against her children is not excusable. This is an unspeakable evil.

And ladies, watch how your empathy is being weaponized against you on this. Postpartum is HARD. Yes. But struggle is a part of life and in no other situation do sane people allow struggle to be an excuse for violent crime.

I’m not claiming that postpartum depression/psychosis doesn’t exist. I’m not claiming that psychiatrists never over medicate their patients. I’m simply stating that neither are valid defenses for murdering children, & sane women don’t relate to women who murder their children & then make up excuses instead of taking accountability. After working in criminal law for years I have a hard time feeling sorry for people with mental health disorders.

40% of the prison population has some type of diagnosis, and eventually they get paroled.

And then it’s “I didn’t want to take my medicine because it made me feel funny.”

So then they hurt someone else.

Then they’re back in jail.

Rinse, Repeat.

I don’t hate them but I have empathy fatigue.

Especially when you factor in how many people take their medications, go to therapy, do the hard work to manage their issues, and up with emergency plans in case things go south.

Every time I see someone in the news doing something horrific with a diagnosis I think “How many chances were you given?”

I don’t think I’m alone in the empathy fatigue either.
