Player's career comes to an end, and he says "if I knew then what I know now" I'd still be playing.
The "if I knew then" information was the stuff the player didn't want to hear.
The hardest decision young people have to make in the present environment is to either chase success or chase attention.
If you chase attention, you will always be unhappy. If you chase success you will be better prepared to deal with the attention
My dad taught me a lifelong lesson on National Signing Day my senior year of HS. He made me call all the schools that recruited me, tell them thank you and inform them of my decision. I hated every second of it but man do I get it now.
Intentional and deep practice is a major difference between good and average players…
Be immersed in each rep…
Learn from each attempt…
Get excited about repeating the good stuff…
Get tuned into mistakes so you learn to make adjustments with less effort over time…
⚾️Players:
Going into the off-season, YES you should be doing your team lifting, conditioning workouts, group practices (or whatever is “allowed”😏).
But if you’re not satisfied with your role/ability on the field, doing what everyone else does WILL NOT get you ahead of them.
You know that exercise, drill or mobility routine you hate?
You hate it because you probably suck at it.
Embrace the suck & watch how much better you become as an athlete. #embracethesuck
Practice is the most misused word in any sport. Practice isn’t just showing up. It’s hard work, discomfort, challenges, failing, intensity. Practice is preparation; it’s training. There’re no secrets. The greatest players are in the gym the most & never try to fake it. They work!
You can demand excellence without berating players on the field. Coaches who make a big show on the field when they yell at players are the most insecure.
Great men are hard on themselves.
Weak men are hard on others.
CWS could educate a lot of the baseball world by having a livestream showing the entire team warmups for pitchers and position players.
Would be extremely interested to see all the different warmup processes athletes use at the D1 level.
People love to tell themselves they lack the innate talent to do something. (ex: public speaking, play an instrument, empathize, exhibit patience, stay calm under pressure, etc.)
Their talent is fine. Variable but fine. They only lack willingness and discipline.
@bballbreakdown@Hennen_Workouts Would you mind naming the others? I’ve seen Bogdan Bogdanovic do it a few times and I thought it was special to him. Thanks!
One of the best retention strategies for a school is an administration who takes care of their staff. Not only will they not want to leave, but others will want to work there.
