@sareedanyelle Getting tackled and landing on his knee while its flexed at a 90 degree angle so his tibia gets pushed backwards in relation to his femur. Not his fault, trying to toe the line of coming back as soon as possible and not re-agg which hasn't gone well clearly.
@Lobs_All_Day Horrible WR vs DB match ups. No w/out Pearsall+Aiyuk no one can beat man. Oline can't hold up against pass rush. Bad match up on paper for the 49ers.
@LombardiHimself No one should be surprised by this once Pearsal said he felt some instability, yet people put their faith in the words of a coach who is always as vague as possible regarding injuries. This timeline is not surprising in the slightest.
@zain49ers 1. The #1 predictor of future injury is a previous history of injury. A lot of these injuries are not 1st time injuries
2. 49ers have a relatively old roster
3. Football has the highest injury rate by sport.
Isn't bad luck/coincidence. All the above factors increase risk.
@toddcochran Sources I use include the Journal of Athletic Training, the National Athletic Trainers Association, National Institute of Health and the CDC
@CoachLeach3 but then we get into problems of inequity between sports, how much risk is considered too much vs acceptable. What needs legislation and what doesn't. Just really messy all around
@CoachLeach3 Really fair question. I know certain sports change their rules to try to limit head impacts (youth soccer cant header, youth hockey can't check). My assumption would be that the rates of concussion are significantly higher in FB. 4x for HS and college compared to other sports
@ayjm_DATATC@SanJuanUnified Same old, same old. CA school district not having an AT, stumbling over themselves to find an explanation that inevitably makes them look twice as bad
@CoachHogge72@RTS_9@12BFootball@RioAmericanoFB Not only does this devalue the profession, but can puts kids health at risk. A certain Sac area high school nearly killed a kid last year due to alleged poor decision making by someone uncertified making healthcare decisions
@CoachHogge72@RTS_9@12BFootball@RioAmericanoFB I don't know your specific situation just saying this as a general statement. Please ensure anyone providing athletic training services to your athletes is a Certified Athletic Trainer. There is no licensure in CA and we see tons of uncertified ATs
Damar Hamlin isn't alone. More than 100 high school athletes suffer cardiac arrest every year. Our @soledadobrien demonstrates how an AED can help save them, just like it did for the @BuffaloBills star. Stream #RealSports tonight on @hbomax.
@ptingatc Hell. a coach in my area this past year had kids practicing outside, in full pads in 115 F weather. As any reasonable person could suspect a kid suffered from heatstroke and was hospitalized.
@ptingatc I'm sure you already know, but this largely happens b/c many coaches have this old school mentality of what "toughness" or what "being a man" means. Coaches with poor understanding of physiology putting their athletes at risk and some of their egos are too big to ask for help
