I'm not sure when this dropped, but I just found that claude code now has a CLAUDE_CODE_MAX_CONTEXT_TOKENS setting, that lets you tell it the max context window of your local model (instead of it defaulting to 200k). This is huge, because it means that it will properly auto-compact itself and not overflow on long running tasks. I have had something running all night and it's been tidying up after itself and still chugging along this morning w/o bizarre errors!
