The Primer Fellowship is back.
If you've dreamed of launching your own school in FL, AL, TX or AZ — we built this for you.
We're on a quest to ensure this is the last generation left behind by the US K-12 system, and we need your help.
Let's launch some schools!
@pitdesi This seems more like a great advantage but not the primary reason. Demand is what drives supply in a competitive market like this one, not the other way around.
The tariffs are a great Rorschach test on X.
It's one of those rare cases where everybody who's ever looked at a history book or economic textbook for any length of time believes it's a bad idea (with only some variance on the degree).
So the world breaks down into the following. And as usual, you shouldn't decide based on whether someone is pro- or anti- a policy (even if it's unequivocally good or bad) but rather how they talk about it.
Reasoned people elevate the discussion (even if their take might be wrong), tribal people pollute the water (even if their side is technically correct).
*Pro-tariffs / tribal*: Pretends is a brilliant move and 4D chess, and says you're a stooge for the media if you pretend otherwise.
@shaunmmaguire (I appreciated his contrarianness last year, but it feels like he's lost the plot)
@chamath (lol no surprise here, grifters gonna grift)
@APompliano
... And anyone speaking on behalf of the Trump Administration
*Pro-tariffs / reasoned*: Understands that there are significant risks here, and that the burden of proof is high. Has nuanced takes as to why it could work. This list is very short.
@RayDalio@L0m3z (a bit generous with this one since he still resorts to ad hominem, but he appears to have balanced reasoning -- just found him because he wrote out a similar segmentation worth reading)
*Neutral / reasoned*: Understands the possible implications, does not take a side. Might be soliciting opinions.
@typesfast (just objective takes on trade and supply chain)
@JTLonsdale (open minded but concerned)
@micsolana (open minded and curious)
@Jason
*Anti-tariffs / reasoned*: Lays out the arguments and the likely negative consequences in a deliberate, fact-based way.
@BobEUnlimited (no surprise, one of the best macro thinkers out there)
@yishan (such a great thinker and writer)
@levie (balanced as always)
@JamesSurowiecki@mattyglesias@ArmandDoma@balajis@pitdesi@GavinSBaker
*Anti-tariffs / tribal*: Overstates the point ("it's the end of the world!!!") or makes wild unsubstantiated claims. Takes the opportunity to dunk or posture rather than add to the discusssion.
@LHSummers (his estimates of "this hurts our economy by $20-30T" is asinine)
@adamscochran (he's right in most of the things he says, but is converting no-one with his rhetoric)
@bennpeifert (again, usually right, but exaggerates every point and dunks incessantly)
@esjesjesj (doesn't have an unbiased bone in his body)
Fact: The avg age of NASA’s mission control team during the Apollo era was 27— they put humans on the moon. Young people bring a force of curiosity and creativity that can disrupt the status quo. If we’re serious about cutting waste in gov spending, let’s not turn away new minds
