This photo of @ProfKibwana is trending online with everyone giving their opinion. Some are even asking why a former governor is still hustling, and others even claim that he did not plan for his retirement.
Well, Prof is NOT hustling; don't be mistaken .
So what is retirement?
Sleep. Wake up. Eat. Drink. Sleep . Repeat.
Well, if this is what you intend to do, then you'd better have your doctor on speed dial.
Well, let me tell you something: good Prof is a happy man. Happiness is relative; sadly, in Kenya, when you steal from them and lead an extravagant lifestyle, that is when they choose to "respect" you.
Prof. Kibwana is choosing the Ikigai way of life.
✅️ 1. Ikigai is "If you want to die, retire!" This quote emphasises the importance of staying active and engaged in life, even in retirement, rather than passively waiting for death. It suggests that finding your ikigai, or your reason for being, is crucial for a fulfilling life, including during retirement.
✅️ 2. Ikigai is a Japanese concept that refers to "a reason for being" or a sense of purpose in life. Thank you Maya Hayakawa @MayaHayakawa you shared this first time I ever heard about Ikigai . Good people , Ikigai It's about finding activities that intersect what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. Prof loves teaching, and he also loves his chilled Coca-Cola, and I am told he also loves his cigarettes 🚬.
✅️3. In Ikigai, retirement should not be seen as a time of inactivity or relinquishing purpose. Instead, it's an opportunity to explore new passions, pursue hobbies, or even continue working in a way that aligns with your ikigai. After all, it's your life; it's your happiness.
✅️4. Ikigai encourages individuals to actively seek out and cultivate a sense of purpose in their lives, even after their traditional careers are over. This can involve volunteering, pursuing education, or engaging in creative endeavours. Prof. Kibwana's teaching is NOT about earning a living; he enjoys teaching, and he is doing it NOT to earn a living but to find his true purpose.
✅️5. It is said that by finding and following their ikigai, individuals can create a more fulfilling and meaningful retirement experience. They can continue to feel a sense of purpose and contribute to the world around them. Therefore, "If you want to die, retire!" is a call to action to embrace retirement as a new chapter of life where you can actively pursue your ikigai and find meaning and purpose.
💪 Prof will be turning 71 in June this year , wishing the good prof a long, happy life. Let Professor Kibwana be, and as always, I choose to remain an optimist .
