A naive question: as a democrat, I had to accept the result of the 2019 election because more people chose the Conservative plan to “finish brexit” and “level up”. Truss sold a different plan to her party members. Do I still accept the 2019 result? What’s the rule/precedent?

According to the FT Covid tracker, England retains its grim ranking as the having the second highest deaths per capita in the world. Czech Republic is now highest (and climbing frighteningly quickly). Belgium 3rd.

Absolutely. Emergency cash right at the start of the pandemic would have prevented so much hardship. Also cheaper than guessing people’s food needs. Money is portable. Shops are nearby. Keep boxes for the folk who *can’t* shop. Why does gov refuse to do this? Precedent? Ideology?
