@KnockTyler I think being open minded about every student can help with younger siblings. Whether you had a superstar student or struggling student before, just try to go into the year as positive as possible.

@aaviahna This is an interesting question. Some of the older methods that veteran teachers can get away with are from experience/following that they may have. Some veteran teachers have celebrity status within in the school and they may use ways that may not be deemed "conventional" today.

@aaviahna Some of the challenges of their daily lives plus maybe them trying to navigate new curriculum or just being a newer teacher could be reasons to this.

@Mason64752401 I have had plenty of teachers who seem to be angry especially at first. There was one teacher who I did not have that seemed like she hated her students. Some of my friends were in her class and I asked them and they just said she ran a tight ship but cared about her students.

@BSchroederUmass One way to avoid this having students create class rules in the beginning of the year. Having students in control may alleviate some of the stresses within the classroom.

@BSchroederUmass I had a economic teacher in hs who would frequently use games whether it was Monopoly or games he created. These experiences along with his witty humor made the experience memorable.

@jhhirsh I think it depends. Yes it creates a culture of us and them but it also gives students a chance to blossom in higher level courses. But teachers should focus more on the lower level students and make sure they are also reaping some of the success in learning.

@Paige17516310 I would set up my classroom either in groups or as a horshoe. Groups because I would focus on collaboration and a horshoe because I would invite students to participate in a socratic/active classroom.
