Worse off than what?
Not worse off fiscally: the PBO is clear that most households and all below the top quintile get back more in rebates than they pay in tax. Which is all that was ever promised.
So unlike most taxes, this tax is fully rebated, and then some. But, like all taxes, it still has an economic impact, and in that sense makes people “worse off.”
So: worse off than what? Worse off than if we did nothing on climate change? That option isn’t on the table — but in any case you’d have to look at the costs of climate change, at least so far as our failure to do anything affects it.
Worse off than other ways of cutting emissions? But that is demonstrably not true. Other methods are much costlier, and don’t come with a rebate. It’s just that the PBO didn’t bother to include those, which makes this study fairly pointless.

This argument would make sense if it wasn't the same tune sung over and over again since 1990. Alberta always needs more time. Meanwhile Alberta has been hit by wildfires. How much did they cost Alberta's?
Ottawa seems intent on moving forward with their destructive and unconstitutional plans to reduce emissions on an unachievable timeline.
The Parliamentary Committee for the Environment and Sustainable Development invited members of my cabinet to testify, and as the Premier of Alberta I will be attending on our province’s behalf.
Canada and Alberta are united in our pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2050; however, we disagree with Ottawa’s 2035 timeline that will increase the price of electricity and reduce reliability to 🇨🇦 Canadian homes and businesses.
I welcome the opportunity to share share Alberta’s position at this Committee hearing.
We at MacDivest wanted to congratulate @McMasterU on the well-deserved endorsement from green revolutionary Doug Ford, known for opening up thousands of acres of the green belt to development for highly affordable million dollar suburban homes!
THREAD 1/3: McMaster claims it cannot accept our demands because this would "set a precedent" for future hunger strikes
This is absurd.
First, It is INCREDIBLY difficult to organize and hold a hunger strike.
What do east-coast hurricanes and the price of ice cream have in common? If you guessed that both are increasing because of the climate crisis, you're correct.
As the world's third largest oil exporter, 🇨🇦 must address its contribution to the climate emergency.

Join me in a few simple questions: Who has money in Cayman accounts? What are their political and economic interests? How are those interests served by the protests? Do you think any leaders of the federal Conservative party have asked themselves these questions?
