This is one of the reasons why I think the £2k stuff is different from the "£350m for the NHS" during the referendum.

Until this morning, rebutting the attack required a lengthy, difficult-to-understand explanation of why it’s garbage. Now, Labour spokespeople can just point to it being something Sunak demonstrably lied about and move back onto what Labour wants to talk about.

Not convinced by the “Sunak being found to have lied about who drew up the £2k figure is good for Sunak actually - because it means more coverage of the £2k attack” argument floating around.

The £2k attack is one of the Tory’s two main messages. It’s getting covered regardless.
