I'm old enough to remember Ukraine before February 2022. Before the great PR makeover. Before billions in British public money started flowing. Before the swastikas were quietly airbrushed out of the picture and yesterday's neo-Nazi problem became today's inconvenient history.
Back in January 2015, Ross Kemp travelled to Ukraine for his Extreme World documentary series, investigating the rise of the far right and the Azov Battalion, including its neo-Nazi elements and symbolism.
This was British mainstream television, not Russian propaganda.
Funny how quickly history gets rewritten when the geopolitical interests change and the public chequebook comes out.
Of course, Ukraine's corruption, extremist movements and internal divisions didn't magically disappear in February 2022. But suddenly, mentioning what British journalists had openly reported for years was enough to get you branded a Kremlin sympathiser.
Well, here's Ross Kemp reporting from Ukraine in 2015, long before the political rebranding.
No Russian bots. No Kremlin script. Just the history they would rather you didn't remember.
Trump responds to Zelenskyy, who said Trump’s supporting Putin’s side in his war against Ukraine...
“Nope, I’m supporting stopping the war between Russia and Ukraine. And you know what? Why? Because that’s what I do for a living. And frankly, Zelensky is not helping matters much. I think he doesn’t want to stop it. But I want to see people not die. They’re losing probably on average, 25 to 35,000 soldiers every single month. All I want to do — I don’t care. I want to get the war stopped. I don’t want to see 25, 35,000. Last month, it was 32,000. I don’t want to see 32,000 soldiers dead. Has nothing to do with this country. But you know what? I — from a human standpoint, Ukraine is losing a lot of — Ukraine is losing all of its men. You know, I was watching a woman on television the other night, and she blamed Zelenskyy. She said he’s killing our men. And the fact is, she said, and it was very poignant. She said, our men are dying. Our men have no legs, in many cases. You look around, they have no legs. They’re in mental institutions. She’s talking about Ukraine, and she’s very well-known, and they want to put her in prison. I want to see the war stop. You’re losing tremendous numbers of mostly young military men, and that means 25,000 to 35,000 a month. All I want is for Russia and Ukraine to stop that stupid war.”
February 2014. Maidan Square, Kyiv. John McCain filming the protests, standing shoulder to shoulder with US Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt, while Victoria Nuland stands just behind them.
A striking snapshot of Washington’s direct involvement in Ukraine’s political upheaval.
The same officials who spoke so confidently about democracy were right there amid the turmoil surrounding the removal of a democratically elected president.
This raises an uncomfortable question: was this truly about defending Ukrainian democracy, or about Washington advancing its own geopolitical agenda at Ukraine’s expense?
@DennisMJordan You are dishonest, at best. These are the ones we cannot be certain about, as they are indeed recorded by Apocryphal Acts.
Philip
Bartholomew
Matthew
James son of Alphaeus
Thaddaeus (Jude)
Simon the Zealot
Matthias
The rest are confirmed by the church fathers, not apocrypha.
@metathomist Petros (Peter) - a (piece of) rock
Petra (this Rock) - a (mass of) rock
Jesus is the foundation for the church, moron. Not Peter. (2Peter 2:4-8; 1Cor. 3:11; Eph. 2:20)
@riecker Your premise is a straw man. They don’t trust the canon of scripture because Jerome said so. Jerome did not create Bible canon, and he merely argued for the shorter list (that already existed) above the longer one.
@ComeHometoRome Pretty sure your catholic church did everything in its power to prevent it, including hunting and murdering the men that did it first did it.
@CatholicDrip___ Mary didn’t carry God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). She didn’t give birth to God, She carried and gave birth to Jesus, the Son of God.
