@spinelessaisha Top Gear was one of the biggest shows in the world for a good reason. It generated a lot of controversy because they liked stirring people up, but what people got offended by then seems quaint compared to what we see on the news every day now.
@BrodieOnLinux I hadn't even thought about the GParted "pending" thing. Good feedback, but on the other hand, he could've randomly clicked a *bit* more.
Otherwise, yeah, pretty good. Glad they're using AI now before forum hunting. AI is surprisingly good at Linux troubleshooting.
@BrodieOnLinux lolz, I didn't realise who you were on youtube (I've seen plenty of your vids) until you said that. Hope Lunduke didn't F you over too badly
@ibuildthecloud@davidfowl Well, thinking about it, I guess it doesn't really make sense compared to something modular like Plasma? Surely something like that can be pieced together just like you want it, with not much effort, and updated with new features immediately?
@ibuildthecloud@davidfowl If someone were arguing something like Windows 7 or 2K, that would be difficult to argue against. But current Windows, with its forced updates, annoying AI features, broken updates and constant logins - I'd use something hideous and unintuitive before putting up with any of that.
@ibuildthecloud@davidfowl "Flair" and polish is very personal I guess, but surely you can achieve those same basic layouts on a number of Linux desktops? Ever tried the desktop on elementary OS?
@ibuildthecloud@davidfowl I don't see how (modern) Windows provides an extremely minimal experience, there's a lot of UI around, and it's certainly not polished. Windows 2000, sure. 11?
Ever seen anything like Fluxbox, Openbox, or some of the other more obscure desktops? *Very* minimal.
@GloriousEggroll If Microsoft will be stopping antivirus companies from using a kernel-level approach, I don't imagine they will be keen to make exceptions for anticheat software. Here's hoping, at least. They might end up doing us a favour! ;-)
@ibuildthecloud@davidfowl You're the only person I've heard say they like the style of Windows 11. I tried it for one minute and thought it was absolutely ghastly, with a UI that was bordering on broken design.
What about Cinnamon on Mint? Or whatever Zorin uses - is that more your tastes?
@mushroomfromgd I only ever hit it by mistake and it gets in the way of gaming, so given I already hate the damn thing, I still call it the Windows key, which is a good label for something detestable
@sillyoumaximus@temidaradev The infinite horizontal strip is definitely interesting. I like having desktops around that are by no means suitable for Joe Average, but will scratch *someone's* itch really hard.
@ZFingerhut14747@temidaradev Yeah, that's fine. Nothing wrong with that. Most of us would. But you can learn a bit of appreciation and a little bloody respect. That's not to say Linux or open source can't be criticised, but just remember who and what you're criticising, and how much they charged you.
