@necros111@ArtemisConsort Interesting. So it allows them to do things politicians can do. So your solution to that is to give a small group of politicians more money that you take from a large group of rich people. Why would the politicians not just do the same thing? Only worse?
"...inaccurate theory that humans can be improved through selective breeding of populations."
This simply isn't true. To believe this you would have to also believe natural selection isn't real or that nature can do it but humans can't. And all the selective breeding we do in plants and animals proves the second part's not true. It doesn't mean eugenics isn't a bad idea. But the idea that you couldn't selectively breed humans when we selectively breed plants and animals all the time, natural selection is real, and lots of traits are heritable is just delusional.
Do you know what it takes to run 30 marathons in 35 days? Let alone the last 6 or whatever on a stress fracture. I'll tell you: At one point I was doing 12 hours of aerobic training a week. My resting HR was ~37. I have mountains of evidence and I wasn't even running scheduled races. Even then, I'm not sure I could have run 30 marathons in 35 days. Let alone several on a stress fracture. That isn't a casual "you know I think I might do this" sort of thing.
If that was this guy's only claim I'd still have doubts...but it wasn't. Horrible tragedy here but academia has lost it's mind with this shit.
So the allegation of plagiarism in his PhD was investigated and dismissed. It turns out he did run all those marathons. So tell me, precisely, all you online sleuths β what exactly did Jason Arday do wrong?
(Apart from being the wrong class and colour of course)
@mattyglesias Playing the victim is a common strategy to gain power. Everybody does it. Hell the left thinks in 2026 everyone except white males are oppressed.
Capitalism doesnβt require perpetual growth. Systems that make promises today based on the assumption of larger revenues, populations, asset values, or tax bases tomorrow require growth.
A shrinking economy doesnβt cause capitalism to stop working. It causes growth-dependent debts, entitlements, pensions, government budgets, and investment assumptions to become much harder to satisfy.
And βfinite planet = finite economic valueβ doesnβt follow anyway. Economic growth measures value, not tons of natural resources consumed. Productivity and technology allow more value to be produced from the same - or sometimes fewer - physical inputs.
@MattWalshBlog Inexperienced all those things and I still think young people are too whiney. Maybe because I experienced those things and never cried about it
