We have added a bark mulch to one of our recently planted Hosta Borders. This will help insulate the roots over winter but more importantly it helps to keep competing weeds from establishing.
This is our Hosta with an unusual Japanese name 謙耀基蓮. Hosta Ki-ren Jyaki. It was developed by Mr. Fukatsu-san in Japan, this totally unique hosta produces fully double, pale lavender blooms. Hopefully these flowers will open up a little more with a few days of warm weather.
Finally a lovely day... This is Hosta Hadspen Blue. The wonderful colour of the leaf of Hadspen Blue, on it's own, makes it a great garden plant. Slower to mature than most but worth the wait. The beautiful bell-shaped pale lavender blooms really contrast with the blue leaves.
This is our small raised Hosta display bench, this year positioned under the trees. All the Hostas have all done well, probably because they have been afforded shelter from the worst of recent rain. Hope you can all get into your gardens today and enjoy the better weather?
This persistent cold wet weather is certainly slowing down our Hosta flowers this is Hosta White Bikini with the flowers just waiting for a bit of warm weather, before they burst forth....
Hosta White Bikini will form a medium sized mound of about 18"-20" in height, by 40", wide.
Hosta Libby is a medium, fast growing Hosta with blue green pointed leaves and a creamy/white margin, which has now turned completely white as the season has progressed. It is an easy to grow and very reliable. All in all a very nice Hosta.

Well what a surprise this morning Yorkshire blue sky and sunshine. More sunshine comes from Hosta Carolina Sunshine.
This recently introduced hybrid is a phenomenally vigorous plant, glossy long dark green leaves, edged by a wide butterscotch-yellow border that holds all season.
We have cultivated a very special Hosta to celebrate YORKSHIRE DAY 2023. This is our "Hosta Yorkshire Tidings" Leaves emerge chartreuse and gradually become gold coloured as the season progresses, helping with sun tolerance. Our nursery in "Gods own Country" Happy Yorkshire Day.
Will it ever stop raining? End of July and cannot remember our last dry day! However it gives us a chance to enjoy the many bejewelled Hosta leaves in the nursery & garden. This is Hosta Minke... If the rain continues expect more of the same!

This is what the magnificent Hosta Paul's Glory looks like as a mature plant. He is now about 10 years old and dwarfs the next door pot, containing Hosta Captain Kirk...... which is about 4-5 years old.

Well here we are nearly the end of July and finally Hosta Frosted Dimples is flowering. With this years wet and cooler summer a lot of Hostas seem to be flowing later than usual. Great slug resistance and sun tolerance.

Laterna Magica is one of our very small Hostas featured on the website, only reaching about 8"-12” in height. The name comes from one of the first slide projectors which used a flame prior to the introduction of electric light bulbs.
Well, back to the morning mist and rain. At least Hosta August Moon is trying to brighten up a wet day on the nursery.
Hosta August Moon will form a large, loose, mound. The large, yellow-green leaves, in older plants are curled. Their colour depends on the site and season.
The lovely markings of the unfortunately named Hosta Striptease
Hosta Striptease will form a medium to large sized mound at maturity.Vigorous grower that will perform well in most positions in the garden, but would be happiest with good morning sun. Lovely plant with a risque name
Beautiful Morning... Beautiful Hosta
This is the flower of Hosta Morning Star.
She has the ability to brighten up any shady corner with her thick dark green leaves and a creamy yellow centre, which it holds all season given wherever she is positioned.
Finally the sunshine after the rain ! Lovely morning and Hosta Wide brim seems happy to see a bit of sunshine at last.
Hosta Wide Brim is amongst the most popular of variegated Hostas ever introduced, cheerfully bringing plenty of varied colour to any situation. A great Hosta!
This showstopper Hosta Patriot, features deep green leaves bordered by a broad, gleaming white margin. It positively glows! These two are on there way to a customer in Redditch.
Hosta Patriot was first registered in 1992. 30 later it is still as popular as ever & you can see why.
Our informal display of small and miniature Hostas has developed over the summer. However this constant wet Yorkshire weather is not favoured by the most of them!
Still tempted to create a Hosta theatre & use Bonsai planters or the same style pots for them all... maybe next year.
