Jesse Strang/Van Rootselaar was estranged from his father because of his mother, Jennifer Strang/Jacobs. Emmett Jacobs, his stepbrother, whom he killed was also estranged from his biological father, Jean Pierre Jacobs, for the same reason. JP Jacobs has two other kids with Jennifer Strang. Both fathers reportedly made repeated attempts to stay involved in their sons’ lives, but to no avail. These boys grew up largely without their fathers.

I’ve come across many such cases over the years, where in Canada, a mother’s custodial rights effectively override a father’s role. We need a serious conversation about how these decisions are made, and what they mean for the well-being of young kids.

A judge did not “block” the DOJ from charging/arresting Lemon.

Here is exactly what Chief U.S. District Court Judge Patrick J. Schiltz ruled:

“[I]f the government does not like the magistrate judge's decision, it can … present its case to a grand jury and seek an indictment.” Which is exactly what DOJ did and a Grand Jury found probable cause to charge Lemon with multiple crimes.
