ASEAN Para Games silver medalist Katrina Hernandez exposed how inaccessible a wheelchair ramp can be.

In a new viral TikTok video, she seemingly appears hopeful as she approaches a ramp beside a stoop: “Buti na lang, may railings din. Pero accessible ba talaga ito?"

“I’ll let you be the judge of that,” she added, before the video showed her struggling to navigate the ramp despite multiple efforts.

The clip quickly underscores how accessibility features may exist on paper, but don't always work in practice.

While such installations can make establishments appear compliant with the Accessibility Law and the expanded Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, poorly designed ramps and facilities can end up unsafe—and ultimately exclusionary.

Hernandez won silver in the women’s 86 kg para powerlifting finals at the 13th ASEAN Para Games last January.

Beyond sports, she's also a medical doctor who graduated from the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health. According to a university profile, she has lived with a disability since childhood—initially using braces through med school before transitioning to using a wheelchair five years ago.

The video shows that if a para-athlete like Hernandez struggles this much, then the ordinary PWDs are likely struggling more.
