I've been pondering this since my comments in real time to the trades. Let me make sure I've got this straight:
- Moved Nurse and his contract to SJS for Mukhamadullin and Zach Sharp
- Moved out a 3rd in 2028 for Devon Levi and a 2028 7th
- Signed Ryan Shea to 5x$4M. (This is a sneaky good get)
- Re-signed Kasperi Kapanen to 1x$2.4M (slight overpay maybe, but I think that's ok given the other moves in context, term is absolutely correct)
- Re-signed Max Jones 1x$850k
- Signed Eduards Tralmaks 1 year 2-way $850K out of europe.
- Signed Frederik Anderson 1 year, $1M (possible up to $2.8M with bonuses, very good structure for the team with his injury history)
- Signed Mathieu Joeseph 1x$1M.
23 man roster, no retention spots used, and still $6.5M left to play with, absent any more subtractions, additions or sending people out to the minors.
In addition they have QO's out to Stastney, Dach, Jarventie (TBD), and Owen Michaels.
Every single one of these moves fills a need, moves money, gains assets or otherwise seems like a move a smart team would make, the only one even remotely risky is Kapanen, and he earned that paycheque for his playoffs alone. That's a risk I'd also take if I was in the chair.
Stan Bowman takes a lot of shit around here (including occasionally from me) but it would be absolutely obtuse of me to say Stan did anything but cook today. Incredibly tidy, methodical work, I am super impressed, and I rarely am impressed these days.
I'm not sure there's a team that did better but the Oilers would be very near the top of the "W column" for free agent frenzy. Unbelievable.
I understand its a business but @drtwofive was a big part of 2 Stanley Cup Finals. He was a great @EdmontonOilers teamate often the first to defend or protect them. A core member of the leadership group who gave back to the community. All the best to him, Mikayla and the boys.
I’ve seen Shakir Mukhamadullin quite a bit in the San Jose system. Let me see if this player sounds similar to someone else.
6’4” good skating physical left shot defenceman but makes a lot of iffy reads with and without the puck.
The Oilers successfully waited until the Darnell Nurse contract didn't look so bad relative to the market & then unloaded that thing with no retention. Pretty nice work
Before the Oilers don’t sign anybody tomorrow. Can everyone relax and maybe touch some grass??? The roster is good as is, no need to pigeon hole ourselves with big contracts before Nurse is settled. #LetsGoOilers Oh also… Ingram is the best goalie on the market
@MattYoungCTV They talk about the young fan… I’m 24. Almost every person I know is going to the game tomorrow, and have been looking forward to this game specifically for months. What is the reason for the low attendance this week?
Oilers GM Stan Bowman has taken his share of heat and deservedly so at times....
but turning Andrew Mangiapane, a 1st-round pick, and a 2nd-round pick into Connor Murphy, Jason Dickinson, and Colton Dach is pretty solid work in my opinion.

Confused why the Avs are getting a pass from media because Makar is out (as they should), but when 2 Oilers C’s were playing with broken ankles, one coming a serious knee injury and the 4C out of the lineup it was “the oilers are a joke and mcdavid should leave” #LetsGoOilers
The @EdmontonOilers season comes to an end.
PK Killed them!
ANA PP 9/18 in the series.
EDM compromised at Center:
McDavid, Draisaitl and Dickinson all played through significant LBI's, Henrique-out.
Ducks were better, especially on home ice.
Tough season overall in Oil Country.
