We need to work hard to learn the best ways to practice with psychedelics. After that, we must work even harder to share these practices widely and ensure they are being applied effectively.
@AnonPsych2@bitesizetherapy Thanks for the interesting conversation! I am not an expert in psychoanalysis or psychodynamic therapy, so I recognize that there are probably blind spots in my thinking.
@AnonPsych2@bitesizetherapy I don’t speak for ACBS. I’m just a humble social worker. I know that people there care deeply about bridging divides in psychotherapy. Perhaps ACT does need to acknowledge better the psychoanalytic tradition (I really don’t know). I think people would be open to conversation.
@AnonPsych2@bitesizetherapy 1/ Freud absolutely was! One of the biggest jokes and shames of the various schools of psychotherapy is that we all are often saying the exact same thing, just in different ways. I love ACT for a lot of different reasons (and have trained in it, so I'm biased to)
@AnonPsych2@bitesizetherapy 2/ but I don't consider it "the answer." Ultimately, we are best to follow the advice of Jung: “Learn your theories as well as you can, but put them aside when you touch the miracle of the living soul.”
@AnonPsych2@bitesizetherapy Agreed! Genuine question: have you heard an act researcher say this? In my experience, they have been pretty honest. Or is it more practitioners?
@AnonPsych2@bitesizetherapy That being said, I do sympathize with the frustration that the same concept is said a bunch of different ways and that different schools of therapy claim things that they don’t come up with.
@JulesEvans11 I both appreciate the point, and I also want this movie to exist (there is multiplicity inside us after all). I look forward to attending the talk today.
@JonathanShedler One of the biggest shames of our profession dividing into groups based on modality is we fight even when we believe so much in common. As an ACT therapist, I agree with so much of what you are saying. We may use different words, but the spirit is the same.
