@sofiatsitab Two main use cases...1) In-situ filtering isn't possible at depth. Think diving, Niskin, or rosette. 2) Samples can be taken in 30 sec and then filtered off-line and/or in parallel. Think multiple surface samples from a boat or drone.

@sofiatsitab It depends on the filter diameter and pore size, as well as the clarity of the water. What we tried to do here is make a system that would make sampling large volumes of water easy and minimize potential contamination. Bags hold 5 L.

@USMPhillipsLab Humidity wouldn’t matter since our filters are capped. Unlikely to be significantly more degradation with an extra 10 degrees.

We ran a long-term DNA preservation test with our JonahWater kits. For 1 month at room temperature, no significant decline in DNA concentrations. For 8 months? Just 30% decline. Always best to keep samples in the fridge when you can, but refrigeration is not required.

Did you know that if you follow EPA E. coli recommendations for recreational water contact, 36 out of 1000 swimmers are expected to get sick? The epidemiology and science behind these tests are weak, but still...why is that particular level acceptable?
