@timecaptales@fasc1nate 6 months before the eruption, I attended a small volcanology conference in Bend, Oregon. Dave gave a talk about his Ph.D. work and got so nervous that he fainted, mid-sentence. 30 seconds later he woke up, jumped up and continued his talk finishing his last sentence.
RIP, Dave.
@JohnVaillant I appreciate the reply. I'd be happy to get together in Vancouver or on Zoom to compare notes. We'd also love to have you give a talk at UBC sometime, either in the Earth, Ocean, & Atmosphere Department, and/or in our Cascadia webinar series.
@JohnVaillant Thanks for “FireWeather.”I’ve run a wildfire webinar series for 4 yrs (https://t.co/z4VmpXK7hA) and the main takeaway after over 100 talks is that the 3 largest metros of Cascadia (YVR, SEA, PDX) are unprepared for major fires. You’ve clearly made that point.
@karaswisher, I’m not an @elonmusk fan, but you’re so wrong about @Tesla cars. Their huge advantage is the @TeslaCharging network. I commute between Portland and Vancouver BC. I also rent Teslas from @Hertz. I wouldn’t consider any other EV. Drive highways? Gotta go with Tesla.
@profgalloway Hey Prof G, In your justified critiques of traditional higher ed, why don’t you cite @ASU as a counterexample? There’s a reason they’re the only uni to rank #1 on @USNews’ “Most Innovative” schools. @michaelcrow has been the biggest risk taker in H.E. for 20 yrs.
@bryan_pietsch @nytimes Bryan, in your NY Times story today, the Trump supporters came from SE Portland (Clackamas Mall), not SW Portland.
As a former Sun Devil (30 years on the faculty), congratulations on getting your NY Times assignment!
This is an excellent analysis from Jeff Sachs of some of the challenges and opportunities associated with getting to 80% CO2 reduction by 2050 (assuming we can get some politicians willing to address the climate issue):

Having been chased off the sidewalk by scooters in Washington DC and Portland OR, I'm quite sympathetic to this argument:

Thank you to @nature_oregon for inviting me to celebrate the re-opening of their office, the Oregon Conservation Center! This cutting-edge office will be the perfect place for TNC to lead the charge to protect Oregon’s most precious lands and waters.
