“I used to resent obstacles along the path, thinking, ‘If only that hadn’t happened, life would be so good.’ Then I suddenly realized, life *is* the obstacles. There is no underlying path.” — Janna Levin
If you’re confused about life, you’re not alone. There are almost eight billion of us. This isn’t a problem, of course, once you realize that life is neither a problem to be solved nor a game to be won.
If you are too intent on making the pieces of a nonexistent puzzle fit, you miss out on all the real fun.
The heaviness of success-chasing can be replaced with a serendipitous lightness when you recognize that the only rules and limits are those we set for ourselves.
So be bold and don’t worry about what people think.
They don’t do it that often anyway.
When you’re succeeding- don’t get that cocky - no one is really noticing.
When you’re struggling - don’t get that embarrassed - no one is really noticing.
Either create wealth or a passive income, or become a monk, or do what you love more than money.
What remains is taming the mind and the body, seeking truth, creating love and art.
The world has nothing to offer you.
And you are free.
Ask yourself: Who do I spend my time with?
Goethe said, “Tell me who you spend time with and I will tell you who you are.”
It’s not just people. What you read, what you watch, what you think about—your life comes to look exactly like your surroundings. Choose wisely.
