Young biologists should work on plants. 🌱
1. SynBio tools are ~10 yrs behind bacteria
2. Basic science has lagged. Often, we don't know what to edit to improve traits
3. Pesticide use is flat & 40% of crops lost to pests
5. Design flowers.
Lots of room to make a big impact!
Well, I'm finally defending my PhD!

I'll be talking about genetic codes (yes, plural), evolution, and controlling evolution with genetic codes
There will be jokes
Powering the cell's biochemical reactions is no easy job. We bring this amazing orchestra to life so you can truly understand and appreciate this little powerhouse organelle - the mitochondrion. #morethanjustapeanut#mitochondria#3Dbiology#glycolysis

@algekalipso have you read this book yet? TL;DR meta-cognition about pain can reduce pain. reading this book, you can't help but think about how you think about pain => your chronic pain in that moment gets attenuated => you notice thoughts can attenuate pain => virtuous cycle of less pain
@martinmbauer makes sense! question: if 3+1D space we're embedded in a high-D manifold (e.g., 10+2) but strictly constrained to that 3+1D surface on that manifold (cause reasons?) then would we still get heavy particles decaying into lighter ones?
We have 3 space dimensions but only one dimension of time. Why is there just one time? What would happen if there were more time dimensions?
A short 🧵that requires some math. (You can probably follow w/o math as well) 1/16
One of the more interesting looking fungi I’ve been able to culture from barley in WA. Suspected to be Pyrenophora semeniperda (a minor pathogen aka Black Fingers of Death ☠️)
